Tutoring in La Crescenta & Montrose

Kokoro Tutoring works with La Crescenta and Montrose students in their homes, online, and at our office at 139 S Verdugo Rd in Glendale — about fifteen minutes south on the 2. Although these are foothill communities with their own character, the schools are part of Glendale Unified, the same district our Glendale students attend.

Kokoro tutors are career educators, not college students working part-time. Most have taught for a decade or more, and several for over twenty years. The team includes graduated subject majors, published textbook authors, and PhD candidates. Kokoro was founded by Adam Lampert, who has worked with students for more than 20 years.

Subjects we tutor

Mathematics — Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus including AP AB/BC and IB, Statistics, and Differential Equations.

Science — Physics through AP and IB, Chemistry through AP and IB, Biology, and AP Computer Science.

Humanities — English literature and writing through AP, essay development, and reading comprehension.

Languages — Spanish, French, Italian, Latin, and others on request.

Tutors work from the student's own syllabus, textbook, and upcoming assessments, so sessions support what's happening in the classroom rather than running parallel to it.

Test preparation

We prepare La Crescenta and Montrose students for the SAT and ACT, the PSAT, and for private and parochial school admissions through the ISEE and HSPT. Graduate-level preparation is available for the GRE, GMAT, MCAT, and LSAT.

Test prep begins with a diagnostic so we know where the available points actually are, then targets those sections rather than reviewing everything evenly.

La Crescenta and Montrose schools we work with

Glendale Unified School District — Crescenta Valley High School, Clark Magnet High School, and Rosemont Middle School.

Independent and parochial — La Crescenta and Montrose families also attend St. Francis High School, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, Flintridge Preparatory School, Village Christian School, Providence High School, Chaminade College Preparatory, Notre Dame High School, Bishop Alemany High School, La Salle College Preparatory, Maranatha High School, and Harvard-Westlake.

Not every student here attends a GUSD campus. If your student commutes over the hill or down the 2, we tutor to that school's course sequence.

Crescenta Valley carries one of the heavier AP loads in Glendale Unified. Students taking three or four at once often need one subject stabilized so the rest hold together.

What parents say

We are so happy with Kokoro Tutoring. I am not sure what we would have done without Adam and his team. They are so knowledgeable, trustworthy, updating parents with student's progress. I can't express the gratitude and respect I have towards this establishment and Adam especially.

Common questions from La Crescenta and Montrose families

Do you come up the hill?
Yes. Tutors travel to students' homes in La Crescenta and Montrose. Our Glendale office is about fifteen minutes down the 2, with onsite parking. Any travel charge depends on distance — ask when you call.

Can you handle Crescenta Valley's AP load?
Yes. We tutor AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, and AP Computer Science at the exam level, including students taking several at once.

Do you help with math placement going into Rosemont or CV?
Yes. Which math track a student lands on shapes what's available to them later, and we prepare students for that placement.

How long are sessions?
Most sessions run 60 to 90 minutes, and generally students meet once or twice a week.
