Tutoring in Eagle Rock, CA

Kokoro Tutoring works with Eagle Rock students in their homes, online, and at our office at 139 S Verdugo Rd in Glendale — about ten minutes west along Colorado Boulevard. Eagle Rock High School runs the IB Middle Years Programme in grades 7 through 10 and the IB Diploma Programme in 11 and 12, which is a heavier and less familiar load than most neighborhood high schools carry. We tutor IB coursework directly.

Kokoro tutors are career educators, not college students working part-time. Most have taught for a decade or more, and several for over twenty years. The team includes graduated subject majors, published textbook authors, and PhD candidates. Kokoro was founded by Adam Lampert, who has worked with students for more than 20 years.

Subjects we tutor

Mathematics — Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus including AP AB/BC and IB, Statistics, and Differential Equations.

Science — Physics through AP and IB, Chemistry through AP and IB, Biology, and AP Computer Science.

Humanities — English literature and writing through AP, essay development, and reading comprehension.

Languages — Spanish, French, Italian, Latin, and others on request.

Tutors work from the student's own syllabus, textbook, and upcoming assessments, so sessions support what's happening in the classroom rather than running parallel to it.

Test preparation

We prepare Eagle Rock students for the SAT and ACT, the PSAT, and for private and parochial school admissions through the ISEE and HSPT. Graduate-level preparation is available for the GRE, GMAT, MCAT, and LSAT.

Test prep begins with a diagnostic so we know where the available points actually are, then targets those sections rather than reviewing everything evenly.

Eagle Rock schools we work with

Los Angeles Unified School District — Eagle Rock Junior/Senior High School, Sonia M. Sotomayor Learning Academies, Benjamin Franklin High School, and John Marshall High School.

Independent and parochial — Eagle Rock families also attend Ribet Academy, Immaculate Heart High School, Loyola High School, Cathedral High School, Salesian College Preparatory, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, St. Francis High School, Polytechnic School, Marlborough School, Harvard-Westlake, and Campbell Hall.

Eagle Rock High is one of the few LAUSD campuses with a 7–12 configuration and full IB authorization. A student moving from MYP into the Diploma Programme faces a real step up in workload, and that transition year is where most families call us.

What parents say

We are so happy with Kokoro Tutoring. I am not sure what we would have done without Adam and his team. They are so knowledgeable, trustworthy, updating parents with student's progress. I can't express the gratitude and respect I have towards this establishment and Adam especially.

Common questions from Eagle Rock families

Do you travel to Eagle Rock?
Yes. Tutors come to students' homes throughout Eagle Rock. Our Glendale office is about ten minutes away on Colorado with onsite parking. Any travel charge depends on distance — ask when you call.

Can you tutor IB courses specifically?
Yes. We tutor IB Math, Physics, and Chemistry at both Standard and Higher Level, and support Internal Assessment work.

My student is in 7th grade at Eagle Rock — is that too early?
No. The MYP years are where the math foundation either holds or doesn't. Getting ahead in 7th and 8th is far easier than catching up in 11th.

How long are sessions?
Most sessions run 60 to 90 minutes, and generally students meet once or twice a week.
