Tutoring in Atwater Village, CA
Kokoro Tutoring works with Atwater Village students in their homes, online, and at our office at 139 S Verdugo Rd in Glendale — about ten minutes north across the river. Atwater sits at the edge of three different LAUSD attendance zones, so students from the same block can end up at different middle and high schools. We work from whatever curriculum a student is actually in.
Kokoro tutors are career educators, not college students working part-time. Most have taught for a decade or more, and several for over twenty years. The team includes graduated subject majors, published textbook authors, and PhD candidates. Kokoro was founded by Adam Lampert, who has worked with students for more than 20 years.
Subjects we tutor
Mathematics — Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus including AP AB/BC and IB, Statistics, and Differential Equations.
Science — Physics through AP and IB, Chemistry through AP and IB, Biology, and AP Computer Science.
Humanities — English literature and writing through AP, essay development, and reading comprehension.
Languages — Spanish, French, Italian, Latin, and others on request.
Tutors work from the student's own syllabus, textbook, and upcoming assessments, so sessions support what's happening in the classroom rather than running parallel to it.
Test preparation
We prepare Atwater Village students for the SAT and ACT, the PSAT, and for private and parochial school admissions through the ISEE and HSPT. Graduate-level preparation is available for the GRE, GMAT, MCAT, and LSAT.
Test prep begins with a diagnostic so we know where the available points actually are, then targets those sections rather than reviewing everything evenly.
Atwater Village schools we work with
Los Angeles Unified School District — Thomas Starr King Middle School, John Marshall High School, and Sonia M. Sotomayor Learning Academies.
Independent and parochial — Atwater families also attend Immaculate Heart High School, Ribet Academy, Loyola High School, Providence High School, Village Christian School, Notre Dame High School, Harvard-Westlake, Campbell Hall, Marlborough School, and Oakwood School.
Atwater sits at the edge of several attendance zones and many families choose out-of-district schools. We tutor to the specific course sequence a student is in.
What parents say
We are so happy with Kokoro Tutoring. I am not sure what we would have done without Adam and his team. They are so knowledgeable, trustworthy, updating parents with student's progress. I can't express the gratitude and respect I have towards this establishment and Adam especially.

Common questions from Atwater Village families
Do you come to Atwater?
Yes. Tutors travel to homes throughout Atwater Village. Our Glendale office is about ten minutes away with onsite parking. Any travel charge depends on distance — ask when you call.
My child is behind in math. Where do you start?
With a diagnostic. Gaps in fractions or negative numbers show up years later as an Algebra problem, so we find the actual gap rather than re-teaching the current chapter.
Do you help with middle school math placement?
Yes. Which math track a student lands on in 7th and 8th grade shapes what's available to them in high school, and we prepare students for that placement.
How long are sessions?
Most sessions run 60 to 90 minutes, and generally students meet once or twice a week.
