Tutoring in Burbank, CA
Kokoro Tutoring works with Burbank students in their homes, online, and at our office at 139 S Verdugo Rd in Glendale — about fifteen minutes east on the 134. Burbank Unified runs its own pacing and its own math sequence, distinct from neighboring districts, and we tutor to the course a student is actually enrolled in.
Kokoro tutors are career educators, not college students working part-time. Most have taught for a decade or more, and several for over twenty years. The team includes graduated subject majors, published textbook authors, and PhD candidates. Kokoro was founded by Adam Lampert, who has worked with students for more than 20 years.
Subjects we tutor
Mathematics — Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus including AP AB/BC and IB, Statistics, and Differential Equations.
Science — Physics through AP and IB, Chemistry through AP and IB, Biology, and AP Computer Science.
Humanities — English literature and writing through AP, essay development, and reading comprehension.
Languages — Spanish, French, Italian, Latin, and others on request.
Tutors work from the student's own syllabus, textbook, and upcoming assessments, so sessions support what's happening in the classroom rather than running parallel to it.
Test preparation
We prepare Burbank students for the SAT and ACT, the PSAT, and for private and parochial school admissions through the ISEE and HSPT. Graduate-level preparation is available for the GRE, GMAT, MCAT, and LSAT.
Test prep begins with a diagnostic so we know where the available points actually are, then targets those sections rather than reviewing everything evenly.
Burbank schools we work with
Burbank Unified high schools — Burbank High School, John Burroughs High School, Monterey High School, and the Burbank Unified Independent Learning Academy.
Middle schools — John Muir Middle School, Luther Burbank Middle School, and Dolores Huerta Middle School.
Independent and parochial — Providence High School in Burbank, and the schools Burbank families commonly commute to: Village Christian School, Notre Dame High School, Campbell Hall, Harvard-Westlake, Crespi Carmelite, Chaminade College Preparatory, Louisville High School, Oakwood School, The Buckley School, Bishop Alemany High School, St. Genevieve High School, and Immaculate Heart High School.
Not every Burbank student attends a Burbank school. If your student commutes over the hill, we tutor to that school's course sequence, not the district's.
Burbank Unified sets its own course sequence and assessment calendar, distinct from Glendale or LAUSD. We match tutors to the specific class a student is taking, not just the subject.
What parents say
We are so happy with Kokoro Tutoring. I am not sure what we would have done without Adam and his team. They are so knowledgeable, trustworthy, updating parents with student's progress. I can't express the gratitude and respect I have towards this establishment and Adam especially.
— Inga H., Glendale High School parent
